Woofstock '09

Mom, Dad and I had a great time at Woofstock. My buddy Laney already wrote up a great description of how much fun it is. You can find her article on it here.

So, I won't go over the whole event, but I wanted to publish a few more pictures from Woofstock.

My buddy Sandy and I found a little bit of time to wrestle while the people rested. It was a little difficult with the leashes. But, for some reason we aren't allowed to run free at Woofstock.

Buddy is another basset. We had a chance to play for a while too.

Mom and I did the walk again, with a bunch of our friends from the bark park. Last time with did it at Mutt Strut, I think I might have won. Not that I really care about wins and loses... but, I think I won... Not sure how I did at this one. But, I felt like I was doing pretty good.
P1010256

I almost entered the talent show. But, the first dog that went was like some kind of circus dog that was practically doing math, and riding a bike on a high wire. I mean... show off!

Woofstock was a good time. Except for that one show off dog. Otherwise it was great. Can't wait to do it again.

Big Sister's B-day

My people are always trying to find some reason to eat cake. And, I love a good bone cake, so I do not blame them for that. The excuse this time was my big sister's birthday. She is like 23 in people years, which makes her just a little over 3 in real years. So, she is just a little be older than me. That is why we like so many of the same things.

First mom and I hid to try and surprise her.
P1010199

But, dad was standing there with his big old camera, so I don't think she was fooled.

Lindsey had a lot of stuff to open up and play with. So, I hung out right next to her just in case she needed help opening anything, or playing with anything.

P1010207

One of Lindsey's presents was this really cool ball. It was like the greatest ball in the world. I could just imagine if the gang at the bark park could see me with that ball... oooo... they would be jealous. I asked Lindsey really nicely if I could play with it. Well... actually when she put it on the ground I just started playing with it. But, it was on the ground. Stuff on the ground I get to play with. So, it was kind of like I asked nicely.

Unfortunately, just when I finally got a good grip on it, it make a loud noise *pop*. And, after that it looked a lot less like a ball. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Happy Birthday Lindsey. You are cool big sister.

George the Wonder Bunny

I like to hang out in my big sister's room. Lindsey is pretty cool, I can get away with a lot more in her room, than I can in Mom and Dad's room.

Recently I noticed that Lindsey had a pet bunny in her room. I wanted it really bad. She said that pets were a lot of responsibility, and that you had to train them, and take care of them, and it wasn't all fun and games. But, I told her I was big enough, and I was willing to do all of the work. We went back and forth arguing about it for quite a while.

P1010194
George and I watching Dad play on his computer.

P1010195
George gets scared, so I have to stay close. I don't mind.

She finally gave in and let me have the bunny. I finally have a pet of my very own! I'm going to love it, and hold it, and squeeze it. She said the first thing I had to do was give it a name. She suggested "Gadget", because she said Gizmo and Gadget would sound neat. But, I was like... "GADGET!" What... that is like the name a dog would have. You don't name your pets after the name you would give a dog. I mean dogs are part of the family.

It took me a while, but I finally settled on calling it "George". George the Wonder Bunny. George is a really good pet. George likes to be with me almost all of the time. Seems like when ever I turn around there is George. It is more work than I expected. But, I really do like having him... er... her... hmmm.... George around. George is worth all of the effort. I have to spend a lot of time at home, alone. George makes the time go by a lot faster.

P1010189
First George wants to play outside...

P1010183
Then George wants to go inside...

George told me just today when he saw my blog, that he would like of like to have one of his own. I just laughed. "Blogging is a lot of work George.", I told him. We'll just have to see.

P1010184
Then once we are inside... you guessed it...

P1010185
He wants to go back out... Oh George!!!

Mom tried to get George, but George was scared, so I had to get George back!

Happy Mother's Day

Seems like my people are always celebrating something. This weekend they were celebrating "Mother's Day". I always thought everyday was Mother's Day... but, I guess this weekend it was supposed to be an even more extra special Mother's day than normal.

Since everyone was trying to do something nice for Mom, I decided to take her to the Bark Park on both Saturday, and Sunday. After all of that I figure she should know she is my mom.

Shannon is a Golden Doodle. So, apparently we are like second cousins or something. I guess we are related on our Golden side. She does remind me of myself a little, and she plays a pretty good game of "Stick tug o war".

When Dad was taking pictures of me, my buddies all decided to start posing for the camera. Dad was just about to get a picture of Sam, Abbie, and Sandy, when Molly just ran up and jumped right in Dad's face as he snapped the picture. I started laughing and dropped the stick. It was pretty funny.

On an unfortunate note, I was having a great time on Sunday, when I noticed all of the bees were back out at the bark park. I am not comfortable around bees. While I was jumping around trying to keep an eye on all of them, my buddy Blake jumped at me to start playing... which normally I really enjoy. But, this time I was kind of scared and took it out on Blake. Blake's Dad moves pretty quick considering he just has the two legs.

I felt kind of bad, I'm not usually like that. We all moved farther away from the bees, and I felt a lot better and was able to relax and play. Whew... Bees... I think I would rather have cats at the Bark Park.

Oh well... All and all... we had a pretty good Mother's day weekend. I hope everyone else did too.

Until next time.

Mutt Strut '09

Mom Dad and headed down to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Mutt Strut. They said I would get to see lots of dogs. I was pretty excited. It was a beautiful day. Sunny and warm, but not too warm.

The Mutt Strut is a fund raiser for the Humane Society. When I was really little, I lived with someone, and they dropped me off at the Humane Society. I call it "my stint in juvie". Living at the Humane Society was not fun. I wish I had started blogging way back then, so I could remember everything better. But, I do remember that after a few weeks in juvie, I was happy to get out of there and into my forever home. So anyway, I guess this fund raiser will help to make sure that dogs living at the Humane Society can be taken care of better until they get adopted. Since every person needs a dog, that means there have to be a lot of dogs waiting to get adopted, so then they can join the bark park where I can wrestle with them.

Walking into Motor Speedway with mom. I hope some other dogs show up.

This place is huge. We walked a long way just to get to the check-in area. But, I was seeing lots of people, and lots of dogs. Just about everyone I saw had a dog. I don't know why people don't just take there dogs with them everywhere all of the time.

P1000963
Finally found the check-in area.

We ran into a couple of my bark park buddies. That was fun to see them.

P1000976
Sandy (pouncing on me) and Laney in the background are my buds.

The closer we got to the actual race track the more people and dogs we saw. They were everywhere. All kinds of dogs. There were some great big dogs much bigger than me, and there were some that were smaller than our cat Gnarly. Dogs are cool. I saw this one that I was pretty sure was a horse. But, mom said it was an "Irish Wolf Hound". I think it was more like an "Irish Horse Hound".

P1000988
So, what do you eat... Hay? Cats?

We checked in and got our instructions, and headed out to the race track to put in our lap.

P1000980
Hey! Boomer is a cat! Not right!

When we got to the track I could see a lot of dogs that were all ready coming around to complete their lap

P1000986
Strutters coming in to the finish line

We finally got on the track, and everyone was all excited about playing on this "yard of bricks". I don't really get it. I like "yard of grass" a lot more. Who would want bricks in their yard? Whatever... people...

P1000992
Me and Laney on the yard of bricks

P1010003
Me and Sandy on the yard of bricks... oh yeah, mom and the Laney's mom, and Sandy's parents are there too.

Finally we are off to the races. There were 100's, maybe 1,000's of dogs and people on the track. It was quite an amazing sight. The track is huge. Bigger than the bark park. They had a lot of people and water along the track when we started, but it seemed like the more we walked the farther it was between the water stations.

We are ahead of a lot of people.

P1010041

Coming out of turn 4 and heading down the home stretch.

As we kept walking it seemed to be getting hotter and hotter, and the track was getting longer and longer.

I started making "Varooooom" noises and pretended I was driving a car. I think I could drive a car. I've seen dad do it, and it doesn't look that hard. But, he does get a lot of help from mom.

After walking a lap around the track on a warm sunny day, we all knew the meaning of the phrase "hot lap"

P1010051
Mom and I are coming down pit lane, slowing down after our hot lap.

I don't like brag... and I know it wasn't really an official race, but there did seem to be a lot of people that wanted my picture in the "Winners Circle". I mean... it is called the "Winners Circle". And, there I was.

P1010073
Me and my buddies in the winners circle, after walking down Victory Lane.

On the way home we stopped at a place called "Ritters". Mom and Dad got me something called "A single scoop of vanilla on a cone". I think it is safe to say that "A single scoop of vanilla on a cone" is my new favorite food. We saw some other people with dogs there. One of them told us that they were just coming home from the Mutt Strut too. There were some people there without dogs... not sure why they didn't bring their dogs there.

Mutt Strut

My parents just told me that they signed up for the Mutt Strut!

It is going to be at a big car race track, and there are going to be a lot of dogs.

Dad said it will be like the biggest bark park in the world.

OOOoooo I'm getting so excited thinking about it, I have to run outside and pee.

Hope to see you there!

My new favorite holiday

My faithful readers know that I had a really bad Thanksgiving. It was almost like I was in the way or something. And, I barely got any turkey at all.

So, as Easter rolled around I was hopeful about getting some ham or other good stuff. I saw a lot of activity in the kitchen. But, I was pretty worried about being locked away while the people ate all of the food.

Then a wonderful thing happened. My big brother Adam showed up with his friend Amanda.

P1000807

Amanda brought her dog Chloe. WOW!!! I didn't know dogs could come to visit me. This was the first time in my life another dog had come over to play.

Chloe is beautiful (in a non-Golden Retriever kind of way).

P1000799

P1000800

She already knew how to play some great games.

P1000809

She already knew how to wrestle.

She chased me, I chased her. It was a lot of fun. It wasn't the bark park, but not bad for being at home. And, I think the best part was, that Chloe like to chase Gnarly, so whenever Chloe was around, Gnarly just stayed on top of the couch... Ha! that was funny...

P1000806

Except one time Chloe jumped up on top of the couch (even though no one is really allowed up there... that is right Gnarly you aren't allowed up there!), and Gnarly shot out of the room to hide. It was pretty sweet.

Then to top off an already great day, when my people were busy playing cards after they ate, I swear I heard one of them say something about "Gizmo", and "Ham", and "Go ahead"... So, I jumped up on the stove and made off with a pretty good sized hunk of ham. As it turns out I apparently misunderstood what they were saying, because they sure didn't act like they wanted me to have the ham after all... But, I think it is safe to say that ham is my new favorite food.

I'm looking forward to next Easter! I had a really good one this year, and I hope you did too.
